4 December 2012 - Hunter Wallace on the Mainstream Appeal of Secession

Hunter Wallace is the editor of Occidental Dissent. In this interview he talks about a new poll showing that 25% of Republicans support secession from the United States. He goes on to talk about how this number is in fact about the same as it was a year ago. Southern secessionist sentiment is not an extreme reaction to Obama’s re-election, he says. Rather, large numbers of people have been considering the idea for a few years and now people are becoming more vocal about it as they have become convinced that the Federal Government can not be reformed. Lastly, Wallace talks about how the perspective of Southern nationalists is not very different from that of normal Southern White conservative Christians. Southern nationalists are just early adopters of what is the best and only real solution to the political problems we face today, Wallace argues.

He explains how this has re-shaped the South’s congressional delegation and our States’ legislature composition and how Romney is destroying Obama in the South amongst Whites. As Wallace notes, the only reason Obama is competitive in a couple Southern States is because of foreign, Northern transplant and Black voters. From there Wallace goes on to explain how the South was changed from being Democratic-dominated politically speaking to today where the only areas of Dixie where Democrats are competitive, for the most part, are non-White majority areas. To wrap things up, Wallace talks about the future of politics in the South as the emerging non-White majority (due to massive Third World displacement of Southerners) takes power and how this will eventually mean the fall of the Republican Party in the South unless something changes.

He also talks about the politics of the Lower South as being distinct from that of the South as a whole – which was a combination of several sub-cultures.

Noel is a business owner, native Alabamian and a Southern nationalist who has lived in Pensacola, Florida for many years. In this conversation he talks about the way that the demographics of the area have been radically changed thanks to a tidal wave of Northern immigration into the area, especially over the course of the last ten years or so. Noel talks about what has been lost due to this influx: the Southern charm, manners, symbols and freedom that once could be found in Pensacola. In their place the outsiders have brought commercialism, zoning laws, massive regulation and political-correctness. Beaches that were once family friendly are now covered with resorts full of non-Southerners. Noel also talks about the various types of Northerners who have flooded into the area, from the New England Yankees to the Midwesterners to the retired military folks. Finally, he discusses the Southern enclaves and overt symbols of Southern identity that still exist in the area.

He addresses common objections to Southern independence and argues that only in an independent South will the Southern people ultimately be able to survive.
