Business Insider has a feature by Joshua Berlinger on major secession movements around the world. Several of these we have been following here at SNN, including the movements in Quebec, Scotland, Flanders, Catalonia and Venice. As Berlinger notes, some of these movements have been peaceful – in fact, the majority have been largely so. He also notes that the current economic crisis seems to be strengthening these movements. The last century has seen the number of independent states in the world increase exponentially. What might we see in the next hundred years?
