Ethan R, a 15 year old Southern nationalist from Virginia, has won the Active South essay contest. You’ll notice that in his essay he talks about both the past and the future, distinguishing his message from the strictly ‘heritage’ or historical crowd. He also avoids the pitfalls of the Rainbow Confederates by focusing on the demographic crisis we face today. He even uses the word ‘genocide‘ (though he softens it a bit by saying ‘cultural genocide’). What is clear is that this young Southerner has a much better grasp on what it means to be Southern and what we are struggling for than do most adults around us. It’s heartening to see our young people taking up the cause of our people and culture – and doing it so ably.
Great essay. This is the passage that caught my attention.
“Now Yankees pour into Virginia, Florida, and the Carolinas in a concentrated campaign to dilute and destroy what true vestiges of Southern culture have not already been replaced by the Northern–manufactured ‘Proud to be a hick’ phenomenon.”
I know what the Yankee invasion has done to my home state of North Carolina. North Carolinians with long-standing historical ties to that land are becoming fewer and fewer (with respect to the overall state population). The key passage is “These transplants came down here and the first thing they did was to infiltrate the County Commission so they could “correct” things that they felt needed fixing in Hernando County.” That would be the Yankee mindset. Many of them feel the need to come in and “correct” Southerners. By the way, this guy has a cool sign.
