I live in Charlotte, NC and work in Augusta, Ga. Since both cities border SC, I shoot across the state line and buy cheap SC almost 100% of the time. In fact, I just filled up in North Augusta an hour ago.

I paid 30 US cents/gallon more in South Florida last week than I do in my Tampa area. Ridiculous.

I remember when Georgia had the best prices, but the State raised gas taxes, and when going into South Carolina for meetings I would notice that their gas prices, which used to be the same as Georgia’s, were lower by about 10~15 US cents/gallon.

I have a friend that works for a major gas station chain and he tells me the average profit per gallon of gas is 8 US cents. The Feds get about 45 US cents and amongst the States it varies due to counties, etc.

Those are both excellent points about the impact of Yankee immigration on our culture and gas prices.

Virginia is also suffering it seems, esp. up here in Northern Virginia. The gas prices are atrocious and that’s in no small part due to the Yankee immigration that is destroying Virginia. To say nothing of western Virginia and their pain at the pump.

Also notice how North Carolina and Florida, the two states perhaps most affected by Yankee transplants, are showing worse gas prices than the rest of Dixie. Pretty telling that it isn’t just “regional” but cultural as well.
