Much of what is said here is true, but I have something to add to the higher education component.

The tuition rates of higher education have become criminal. What used to cost only a few thousand dollars a year, today cost $20,000 to $40,000 dollars a year.

What family can save for that?!?!

Also, if you are in the education business, you are paying $500 dollars plus for each continuing education course to renew a teaching certificate. Then, to top that off, you must pay the state another $200 plus to get the scrap of paper that says you have the teaching license!

Colleges and universities could offer most students what they need in a two year period, slashing tuition, and sending students out into the world ready to go. Instead it has become a racket of the worst kind, a criminal enterprise.

Instead of sending robots to Mars to look at dust and rocks, why doesn't the government put their money where there mouth is, and help in the ways I've just mentioned?

Why not? I'll tell you why not. We are being run by the same folks that tell you that casino jobs are the real jobs of today, while they slam the "big businesses" that we've chased out of the country with our taxation and crazy regulations.

Masked Walnut,

As much as it pains me to say it, you are right on that matter. Most universities only see the money that's rolling into their bank accounts.

Over all though, what is taught at an institution should be to the satisfactory of both those attending and the institution. The students should want to be proficient in their specialized area of study, while the university should want to turn out the best students in each field of study.

Race and politics should never enter into the equation of what is taught. For instance, I feel that the higher levels of math should be left to those specializing in engineering, mathematics, etc. Those specializing in humanities, art, psychology etc probably dont need to master anymore than liberal arts math.

Politics, potential employers, government officials really have no place in deciding on what the appropriate level of mathematical mastery should be for a graduate.

it's about flare and no substance. if schools can get a higher percentage of the student body to "graduate" then they will get more money from the government. whether or not the students actually "learn" anything is irrelevant.
