I’m not exactly sure what age Quantrill moved from Ohio (I’ll have to look it up but I believe he was a schoolteacher before he moved to Missouri).

Yes, I would agree that the War of Southern Independence really started with the Border War (During the 1850′s).

New Silence Dogood: Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I think I read that he came from Ohio when 17? Being a native Missourian, I’m always amazed at the history that Missouri has. There’s a lot of depth to it, and it had (and still has) a tremendous amount of confederate activity and support. We had a lot of well known characters get their start in Missouri and Kansas too – and I’d debate that the War of Southern Independence really was kicked off with the Border War between Kansas and Missouri – and was influenced heavily by folks in northwestern Missouri.
