Norfolk’s Confederate monument highlighted

NBC affiliate WAVY-TV has a piece by Kerri Furey highlighting Norfolk, Virginia’s impressive Confederate monument. Be sure to check out the video. Furey writes:

It stands in the shadows of  glass, steel and stone skyscrapers in Norfolk’s business district, but when it was erected decades ago, the monument to those who died fighting for the Confederacy in the Civil War [sic]was the tallest structure around.

Norfolk Historian Peggy McPhillips says even though some might say it looks out of place, it has an important place in the mermaid city’s history.
