This morning it was a pleasure to speak with Mr Bruce Swinnie about a Confederate flag give-away he is doing in the Myrtle Beach and surrounding area of the Carolinas. As anyone familiar with the area is well aware, vast numbers of transplants have deluged it and created a climate where the most recognisable symbol of the South and the Southern people is no longer as visible or welcomed as it should be. In areas such as these it is all the more important to display our symbols and promote our identity, creating a climate in which those hostile to us would feel unwelcomed and reminding local Southerners that they are not alone. To that end, in this interview Mr Swinnie talks about the fact that he has purchased one hundred flags and is giving them away for to anyone who will publicly display them (as opposed to putting one up in their bedroom where no one will see it).
