Podcast: Debt, Trayvon & Obamacare

March 28, 2012
By

This evening it was a pleasure to have returning guest John back on the SNN podcast to discuss some of the major issues in the news. John is a liberty activist who keeps the site The Real Liberal. He has appeared on television and the radio to promote Ron Paul. In this conversation talks about news that the Federal Reserve is now buying most of the US debt and what this means for the (potentially short) future of the US dollar; the Trayvon Martin case spirals out of control with violence, calls for race riots and even a confrontation between US congressmen; and the US Supreme Court decides the fate of Obamacare – will it stand?

I’m all for reading the founders. Reading about the struggle for liberty gives me hope we might win one day.

However, my only criticism is the idea that we need the Supreme Court to uphold Obamacare. I have heard for years and years that we just need to allow a little more tyranny and everyone will wake up. So far it’s not happened. I think it’s important to have a moral victory every now and then for people to feel like the fight is worth fighting. The founders won fights like the Stamp Act etc.

I think you make a good point, 29thtn. I am sympathetic with your point of view on this.

29th, great points. I’ve been reading Tom Woods’ site regarding Jefferson and his thoughts and arguments regarding the Articles vs the Constitution, the size of government and the sovereignty of the States.

The problem I see is that we’ve accepted tyranny ever since independence from Britan with the surrender of the Articles to the Constitution, the acquisition of lands (Louisiana Purchase and the so-called Mexican War), the implementation of the central banking system brought on by the Whigs-Republicans and the increase of tariffs, by the time 1860 rolled around, the South was only ones with brains enough to recognise how far off course the united States had strayed from the founders framework.
We know the result. Liberty didn’t die that fateful day in April 1865, but it’s been in a coma, and we need to do the best we can to resurrect it. Otherwise, I bet in the next 4~6 years, it will be dangerous to be a white person in the DC Empire.
Sorry for the screed. I am piling all my thoughts together from this post and from the post regarding the SCV and their case of political correctness. Caesar came to mind when I read that, thinking, “et tu Brute?” In my mind, that would be a terrible loss.
