President of the Confederate States of America
Jefferson Davis was the first and only president of the Confederate States of America. Born in Kentucky, Davis attended West Point and fought in the Mexican-American War. He was the US Secretary of War and a US Senator representing Mississippi in Congress prior to Southern secession. After Mississippi seceded from the United States Davis resigned from the US Senate, returned to his State and was selected as the new Confederacy’s president.
