Podcast: Lower South & Caribbean civilisation

February 29, 2012
By

This afternoon it was a pleasure to speak with a returning guest to the SNN podcast Hunter Wallace about an interesting way of looking at early Southern history and the connections between the Lower South and the colonial civilisation of the Caribbean. Mr Wallace has a recent article about Morris Berman’s book Why America Failed in which he writes about the States of the Lower South being ‘the northernmost tier of a Caribbean civilization of slave societies that once stretched from South Carolina to Brazil.’ In this interview Mr Wallace develops this idea by talking about early South Carolina settlers called the ‘Goose Creek Men‘ from the wealthy British colony of Barbados, how the Lower South colonies had more in common with Caribbean societies of the day than they did with New England colonies, the economic and racial caste system that was brought to the Lower South, William Walker‘s ‘filibustering’ plans for Nicaragua and efforts by the Knights of the Golden Circle to build a federation of independent States throughout the Caribbean and around the the Gulf of Mexico.

This may seem “out there” in terms of ideas but I still think that a “Knew Knights Of The Golden Circle” (Or KNGC) that promoted good virtues that would be admired by the rest of the world without any expansionist or perceived “hate views” of any kind would work.

Just my opinion if it makes any sense :-)
