Congressman Peter King’s (R-NY) Committee on Homeland Security is going to hold a hearing on the Department of Homeland Security’s practice of monitoring social networking sites and the Internet in general. King is known for his anti-liberty views, hatred of Muslims and support for the terrorist organisation Irish Republican Army. It was the efforts of a privacy advocacy group, the Electronic Privacy Information Center, which forced this hearing. Though it’s certain that the Feds will not act to curtail their power, more attention to their spying on US citizens will result from these hearings.
