Why does the Left support Obama?

The Left’s utter devotion to a man who (despite his laughable Nobel Peace Prize) is about as pro-war as it gets is rather perplexing – that is, if one takes the anti-war rhetoric of the Left at face value. Obviously, the self-styled “Progressives” care more about getting homosexuals in the Federal military (which leads me to wonder if they really care about gay people or are just using them to get their votes) or forcing people to buy health insurance (how very tolerant of them, huh?) than they do about ending US imperialism over-seas. The Tenth Amendment Center has a nice article and chart on this subject showing how Obama’s escalation of the Afghan war. And where are the peace activists? Where are the large demonstrations like in the Bush years? It seems as long as man in the White House is a Democrat that it doesn’t much matter to the Left how many people he kills or how many countries he occupies. That doesn’t concern them – especially if it’s a gay airman dropping those bombs. That’s super “progressive,” right?

One Response to Why does the Left support Obama?

Michael I think a part of the reason for this disconnect is that it arises by psychological necessity. A large number of people wish to so desperately see the empire as a force for good, albeit with temporary deviations arising from the wrong man being in power, that once their own man comes into power they will accept any sort of justification for the evil policy regardless of how ridiculous to maintain that self deception of US benevolence.
